Are dogs allowed to eat mango?

Dürfen Hunde Mango essen?

The sweet taste of mangoes is not only loved by many people, but also by many a four-legged friend. But are dogs actually allowed to eat mango or should different types of fruit end up in their food bowl as a snack instead? The answer to this question is given below.

Mango as a healthy snack for dogs?

Fruit is known to be healthy and is a natural part of a balanced diet for us humans. However, the nutritional needs of dogs are very different from ours in some respects. Some foods that are harmless to humans can even be poisonous to dogs.

However, this does not apply to mangoes. Your dog may therefore eat mango without you having to worry about their health. Some dog owners are even convinced that mango can help dogs to develop a more lustrous coat! Whether this is really the case remains to be seen.

In fact, mangoes are a good choice as a snack for your four-legged friend. The fruits contain only a tiny amount of acid, which is why they are considered easy to digest. In addition, mangoes are rich in vitamins and minerals. Among other things, they contain beta carotene and vitamins C and E as well as various B vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Why dogs should not eat too much mango

Mangoes are not only rich in vitamins. They also contain quite a lot of sugar. You should therefore only feed your dog mango in moderation, as the fruit can promote obesity in large quantities.

Dogs should only eat ripe mango without peel

If you want to let your dog eat mango, make sure that the fruit is ripe. You can easily recognise a ripe mango by pressing it in with your finger with ease. If the mango is hard, it will need to ripen for a few more days before it can be eaten.

Also remove the large, hard core as well as the peel, as this can be contaminated with the milky plant juice and pesticides. It is best to cut the mango into cubes for your dog so that they can eat it easily. Alternatively, you can puree the flesh.

Mango for dogs - our conclusion

As you can see, you can feed your pooch without hesitation. Due to the high sugar content, the only concern is not overdoing it with the amount. In addition, only peeled mango should end up in your dog's food bowl.

Regardless of this, it should go without saying that neither mango nor any other type of fruit will provide your dog with all the necessary nutrients. The fruit should therefore only ever be a snack for in-between meals, while your four-legged friend's diet should mainly consist of a good dog food.

In the Bellfor range, you will find everything you need for the species-appropriate nutrition of your four-legged friend. In addition to wet and dry food, this also includes natural food supplements as well as healthy dog treats that your dog is sure to love even more than mango.
