Feeding plan for sports dogs (endurance sports)

Whether Canicross, sled dog races or other activities. In dog sports, dog and owner alike have fun. By regular training the necessary basis for the races is laid and worked on the common success.

But there is one thing you should not forget. The nutrition of your sporty active fur noses is at least as important as the training. Because without the right food in the necessary quantity, performance suffers. In addition, the risk of injuries and health problems increases.

If you are concerned about the sporting success and the health of your dogs, you should know exactly what is important when feeding.

For this reason, we have put together a feeding plan for endurance sports dogs for you. This will tell you exactly what to look out for and how you can help your coat noses to perform at their best with the right nutrition.

Nutrition during the resting phase

It is not only during the training phase or immediately before the races that it is important to pay attention to the right food. Even during rest periods, you should not make any compromises.

Choose high-quality dry food in the right composition and ensure that your dogs are provided with all the necessary supplies, can regenerate and remain efficient even without physical strain.

Our recommendation for the resting phase

In addition to the right amount, it is especially important that the feed of your choice is free of wheat and other unsuitable ingredients. In addition, a high protein content is particularly important.

However, it is not only the quantity itself that counts, but also the quality of the proteins it contains. This is the only way to ensure that the body of your dogs can make good use of the protein.

For sports dogs during the resting phase, we therefore recommend that you grab either our Landgut feast or our Naturgut feast. Both varieties are our dry food with insect protein.

Insects may seem unusual as a source of protein, but their complex amino acid profile is convincing. Our insect protein consists of 18 different amino acids, including 10 that are essential for dogs. This allows it to be particularly well utilized by your body.

At the same time, it is very digestible and, unlike many other protein sources, has practically no allergy potential. Both country estate and natural estate feast contain 82 percent of this high-quality and well-tolerated protein source.

The high protein content as well as the outstanding quality of the proteins contained make both varieties the ideal food for your sports dogs during rest periods. Whether you prefer the cold-pressed or the extruded version is entirely up to you.

Training phase: you have to pay attention to this when feeding.

In order to get into shape in time for the races, it is essential to start training in good time. From this point on you should adjust your feeding accordingly.

Finally, you must take into account that your dogs now have an increased energy requirement. And this needs to be covered.

It's also a good idea to optimise your feeding plan with a few selected supplements. This will increase the performance of your coat noses and improve regeneration. In addition, possible health problems are prevented by the training load.

In detail, we recommend the following composition for your feeding plan during the training phase:

  • Food: On training days Bellfor Pur Active with a high energy density, 30 percent protein, selected, gluten-free carbohydrates and 20 percent fat - on rest days our dry food with insect protein
  • Food supplement part 1: After the load on the training days Bellfor Fitnesspulver with high-quality amino acids from insect protein for the optimization of the supply with protein
  • Food supplement part 2: Bellfor joints & bones with Ovopet, to prevent problems with joints, tendons and ligaments and to maintain the functionality of the musculoskeletal system despite high loads

The race phase: it gets serious

On race days and in the days before, it is important to provide your dogs with the best possible nutrition so that they can achieve their full potential in competition.

In addition to the feeding recommendations for the training phase, we recommend that you add the Bellfor Fitness Bar to your sports dog's diet.

This provides the body with additional energy. In order to fill the energy stores and get the dogs used to it, we recommend that you start feeding the fitness bars three days before the race.

Why Bellfor Pur Active?

During training and racing phases, sports dogs have an increased energy requirement. Choosing the right food is crucial to meet this demand.

We recommend feeding your dog Bellfor Pur Active during this time. Its composition is perfectly adapted to ensure performance even under high loads.

The protein content is 30 percent, which is significantly higher than with other dry foods. Among other things, proteins are important for maintaining the muscles, increasing endurance and regeneration after exercise.

Instead of wheat, we use corn and rice as gluten-free alternatives for Bellfor Pur Active. The combination of the complex carbohydrates in rice and the simple (quickly available) carbohydrates in maize ensures an optimal supply of energy from the start of the load.

While the dog's body primarily relies on carbohydrates as an energy source for shorter periods of stress, fats are the main source of energy for longer periods of stress. For this reason, Bellfor Pur Aktiv contains 20 percent fat in addition to protein and carbohydrates.

This ensures the energy supply even with increasing duration of sporting activities.

Why joints & bones?

Of course, your fur noses have at least as much fun during sports as you do. However, this should not preventyou from being aware of the strain on the animals' bodies.

Especially the musculoskeletal system has to endure a lot in dog sports. If you are not careful, there will be excessive wear of the tendons, ligaments and joints, as a result of which chronic diseases often develop.

With Bellfor Joints & Bones you have the opportunity to counteract this. It is the world's first nutritional supplement for dogs that contains Ovopet.

Ovopet is derived from the egg shell membrane of chicken eggs and consists of more than 500 different ingredients. Collagen, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate are decisive for its effectiveness.

The unique combination of these active ingredients creates a synergy effect and ensures that joint metabolism is regulated and mobility is maintained.

Bellfor Joints & Bones is therefore the perfect dietary supplement for dogs active in sports for a permanently healthy musculoskeletal system.

Why Fitness Powder?

Sportingly active dogs do not only need sufficient energy in the form of carbohydrates and fats. In addition, the supply of proteins is particularly important.

Proteins, or the amino acids they consist of, support the body during regeneration, promote muscle building and at the same time avoid the breakdown of muscle mass during prolonged stress in endurance sports. In addition, they contribute to an improvement in performance and help to prevent injuries.

In addition to a protein-richdry food, we therefore recommend a dietary supplement with Bellfor Fitness. Thepowder contains only three high-quality, natural ingredients and especiallyhelps to supply the body of sports dogs with urgently needed proteins.

Our insect protein also serves as a source of amino acids here, which is characterised by its high quality and good tolerance. Chia seeds and dried bananas also serve as a source of important micronutrients such as magnesium and as a source of fibre.

The dried bananas with their fructose also provide quickly available carbohydrates as a source of energy.

Bellfor Fitness Powder therefore has the perfect ingredients to ensure regeneration after exercise.

Why Fitness Bars?

It is essential to provide the right amount of nutrients to the body of the coat noses for performance during long periods of exercise. This is the only way to ensure that the dogs can reach their full potential.

Even special food such as Bellfor Pur Aktiv is not sufficient for this purpose. Although the dry food contains the right combination of nutrients in principle, feeding immediately before the load would be an obstacle to performance due to the quantity required.

Instead, we recommend that you reach for our Bellfor fitness bar before the races. It contains a mixture of high-quality fats and carbohydrates and offers a significantly higher energy density compared to dry food.

In this way it is possible to supply enough energy even with a small amount of feed.

In addition to fat and carbohydrates, our fitness bar also contains valuable micronutrients such as magnesium and vitamins. In addition, L-Arginine supports performance and L-Carnitine improves fat metabolism. In addition, red beetroot's high nitrite content ensures a widening of the blood vessels and an optimal supply of oxygen.

After the racing season

After the racing season it is time to change the diet of your sports dogs again and adapt it to the elimination of the high physical strain of training and competitions.

Now, instead of Bellfor Pur Aktiv, you can once again use our varieties Landgut and Naturgut-Schmaus. With the help of the insect protein contained, the essential amino acids are replenished, which contributes to rapid regeneration.

The immune system needs support

In addition, after the exhausting racing season it is important to support the immune system of your coat noses. The efforts of the last few weeks have burdened the dogs' defences and made them susceptible to infections.

To counteract this, we recommend that you use Bellfor Immune for a period of four weeks.

Selected ingredients such as insect protein, sea buckthorn and nettle seeds provide the body with valuable amino acids, vitamins and minerals. The contained propolis additionally provides an antibacterial effect.

This special combination of active ingredients helps Bellfor Immun to strengthen the immune system of your sports dogs in a natural way and to regenerate quickly.

Our tip for healthy paws

Also the paws of your sporty fur noses have to endure a lot during the races. Small wounds and cracks are especially common with sled dogs, but also with other sports dogs.

Therefore, do not only pay attention to the right nutrition, but also pay some attention to the paw care. With Bellfor paw protection you ensure that you stay healthy and that small cracks and wounds can heal quickly.

Insect grease and other high-quality ingredients such as beeswax and shea butter care for the skin and reliably protect the paws from wetness, cold or snow.

Thanks to the perfectly coordinated natural active ingredients, Bellfor Paw Protection is the ideal product for paw care in sports dogs.
