Risk areas: where ticks occur in the UK

Risikogebiete: wo Zecken in Deutschland vorkommen

Tick bites pose a danger to humans and animals alike, with ticks biting dogs almost more often because they romp about in meadows and forests.

However, the incidence of ticks and the diseases they transmit can vary considerably within Europe, which is why not all regions are considered to be equally at risk.

Where the risk of infection is particularly high and how you can protect your dog from tick bites is explained below.

Ticks occur all over Europe

Although the occurrence of ticks is not the same everywhere in Europe, you should be aware that your four-legged friend can be bitten or stung by one of the parasites everywhere.

In other words, Europe has long been an area-wide tick area. However, the risk of infection with a tick-borne disease varies considerably from region to region.

The number of risk areas is growing

So far no cases of TBE have been reported in the UK. However, there is at least a low risk of Lyme disease infection in large parts of the country. Compared to the European mainland, however, the risk is much lower.

There is a risk of infection practically everywhere

Even if the risk of infection, at least with regard to TBE, is not the same everywhere, your dog can in principle be bitten everywhere by a tick and infected with various pathogens.

For this reason, you should pay sufficient attention to the topic of prevention. After each walk, search your dog thoroughly for ticks and immediately remove the parasites from his coat.

If one of the bloodsuckers has already stabbed you, a tick card or tick tweezers will help you to remove the parasite with its head from the skin of the four-legged friend.

Since the transmission of most pathogens takes several hours, the risk of infection can be significantly reduced by a timely removal, so that the tick bite becomes red at best and otherwise usually no major consequences are to be feared.

Tick repellent: when and where tick protection is indispensable

In order to further reduce the risk of infection with diseases such as TBE, ehrlichiosis or Lyme disease in your dog, we recommend that you use a suitable tick repellent.

Considering the fact that ticks can be found practically all over Europe, we advise you to protect your dog in this way during the warmer months of the year, regardless of where you live.

Natural tick protection from Bellfor

Many conventional tick repellents for dogs contain toxic agents such as acaricides. Apart from the fact that such preparations often do not offer sufficient protection against a possible infection, they can also cause serious damage to the health of your four-legged friend.

With Bellfor ZEComplete we have therefore developed a natural tick repellent for dogs. The high content of lauric acid provides a deterrent effect on ticks and protects your four-legged friend effectively and without side effects against an infestation with the dangerous parasites.

Take advantage of Bellfor ZEComplete Spray, ZEComplete Biscuits or Soft Bites and rely on purely natural products without chemicals when it comes to ticks.
