Are dogs allowed to eat raspberries?

Raspberries are generally considered very healthy and regularly appear on many people's plates. But what about dogs? Are dogs allowed to eat raspberries or should owners instead do without the small, red fruits when treating their four-legged friends? We will give you the answer to this question in the following paragraphs.

Fruit like raspberries as a healthy snack for dogs?

It is, of course, no secret that fruit contains numerous vitamins and other valuable nutrients and that it should be on the menu every day as part of a healthy diet.

However, our own nutritional needs are very different from our dogs’. As semi-carnivores, our four-legged friends depend on their diet to provide them with the animal proteins and fats they need.

In addition, some foods that are harmless to humans are not well tolerated by dogs and may even be poisonous to them. However, this does not apply to raspberries. Your dog can eat raspberries without you having to worry about their health.

Raspberries provide dogs with valuable nutrients

Raspberries are a very healthy fruit, rich in fibre and many valuable nutrients too. Raspberries contain beta-carotene, vitamins B11 (folic acid), C and E, as well as a number of phytochemicals and various minerals such as magnesium, calcium and iron.

Due to their high content of micronutrients, raspberries are said to have various positive effects on health. Among other things, the delicious fruits are said to have an anti-inflammatory effect, promote healthy intestinal flora and support the immune system.

Basically, not only you but also your four-legged friend can benefit from the nutrients of the low-calorie and delicious raspberry. Dogs are therefore welcome to eat raspberries and normally tolerate them without any problems!

You can either puree the fruit or just simply give it to your four-legged friend to eat. Dogs can also eat dried raspberries. However, you should bear in mind that these raspberries have a much higher energy density than fresh fruit due to their low moisture content.

Can dogs be allergic to raspberries?

Theoretically, it is possible for dogs to be allergic to raspberries. In reality, however, this only happens very rarely. But, if you observe possible allergy symptoms in your four-legged friend after eating them, you should, of course, not feed your dog raspberries in the future.

Wash shop-bought raspberries for your dog

If you have a raspberry bush in your own garden, your dog can eat the fruit directly. Shop-bought raspberries, on the other hand, should be washed beforehand to remove any pesticide residue.

Can dogs eat frozen raspberries?

Once picked, raspberries spoil quite quickly. They should therefore be eaten as soon as possible. Out of season, thawed fruit from the freezer can be a good alternative. However, dogs can also eat frozen raspberries. When it's hot in summer, for example, they make an excellent refreshing snack that goes down very well among most four-legged friends!

When buying frozen raspberries for your dog, however, make sure that the fruit does not contain any additional sugar. Excess sugar has no place in your four-legged friend's food bowl.

Raspberries for dogs - our conclusion

As you can see, dogs are allowed to eat raspberries. The fruits do not contain any ingredients that are toxic to the animals. Instead, they provide your four-legged friend with a variety of important nutrients. If your dog likes them, there is nothing to stop them enjoying raspberries as a snack between meals.

Of course, you should be aware that fruit alone is not enough to provide dogs with the nutrients they need. For this purpose, you need a high-quality dog food, such as you will find in our online shop.

In addition to easily digestible dry and wet food, you will also find a large selection of natural dog snacks which you can reward your four-legged friend with in a healthy way and which most dogs prefer to raspberries anyway.
